As the competition grows tougher, the challenges of building a functional prototype increase. During the past week of Engineering, the top 10 candidates have been scrambling to put their last minute nuts and bolts together before facing the jury who will be deciding their fate and eliminate 4 innovative projects.

Once again the permanent jurors were joined by Egyptian-American scientist, Dr. Farouk El Baz who shared the VIP juror status with Qatar National Research Fund executive director Dr. Abdul Sattar Al-Taie who has been a supporter of the Stars of Science program from its early beginnings.

As part of their tasks, the candidates had to offer a demonstration to showcase and highlight the functionality of their prototypes. As Amina calmly answered questions from the jury on her assistive device, Mahmoud Shattel was baffled with his own calculations as the jury used it against him to prove that his efficient vertical wind turbine was not as efficient as he claimed it to be.

On the other hand and in the presence of his family, Khaled Eid confidently demonstrated how his 3D holographic display device can show the solar system in all its angles as the jury inched closer to see it.

In the midst of all the pressure and challenging questions, Khalid Aboujassoum prepared ingredients to place inside his automated home cooker when he geared up to take the stage last to provide the jury with a taste of his cooked meal. When his turn came, Khalid served the jury and they were exceptionally surprised by the taste and outcome his device was able to produce.

And after all the tasting and projected virtual computer demonstrations, the time had come for the 10 candidates to become 6 when Khaled called out their names and the results were as follows:

Khaled Eid – 3D Holographic Display, 89.2%
Khalid Aboujassoum – Automated Home Cooking Pot, 88.7%
Jaber Henzab – Automated Home Pharmacy, 77.5%
Amina Al Hawaj – Assistive Device, 76.7%
Hekmat Al Rouh – Thaw Indicator Stamp, 71.2%
Mohamed Watfa – Projected Virtual Computer, 68.2%

We wish best of luck to Saud Al Shammari, Mahmoud Al Shattel, Aisha Saleh and Nadi Chemali whose innovative journey just started after their performance on Stars of Science.

Stay tuned to the design phase on Thursday October 25th at 8:00PM KSA on MBC4 as the candidates explore shapes, size and color to transform their innovative ideas and bring them to life.
