   Proof of Concept
< Previous 5/9 Next >

After weeks of working on their innovative ideas, the time came for the candidates to prove their concept works to a 4 member jury comprised of the permanent jurors, Dr. Fouad Mrad and Professor Ibrahim Al Nuaimi, as well VIP juror and esteemed guest Dr. Farouk El Baz who joined the Jury for a third year. Dr. Eyad Masaad, Assistant Dean for Research & Graduate Studies at Texas A&M University at Qatar, also returned once again to the program as Education City jury member.

Before the presentations began, host Khaled Al Jumaily announced that candidate Amine Gaabab from Tunis had pulled himself out of the competition before the start of the Proof of Concept phase due to personal reasons. The impact of his departure resulted in  only 5 candidates being eliminated instead of 6 during the Proof of Concept episode.

The competition was heated as each candidate was confident in their innovations. Aisha confidently walked in the set with her follower cart gliding behind her and Nadi put on a musical performance while walking up his smart musical stair case. The night also witnessed Khaled Aboujassoum demonstrating how his automated home cooking pot would instantly make healthy meals for the end user while Aynour revealed the first prototype to her well anticipated programmable fashion shoes.

While some projects captivated the jury, others were less intriguing as they failed to collect sufficient data that would support their innovative ideas. Mohamad Eliyan was among this group as he provided the jury with data from his acetone vs. glucose levels experiment that did not support his invention.

After grilling questions from the jury and firm answers from the candidates, the time had come for the Khaled Al Jumaily to read out the names of those who did not advance to the next phase of engineering and they were: Wael Hasan, Yousef Hashash, Mohamad Eliyan, Ahmad Al Ramahi and Aynour Tatanaki.

The top 10 grading were as follows:
Mohamed Watfa – Projected Virtual Computer, 90%
Mahmoud Al-Shattel – Efficient Vertical Wind Turbine, 88%
Khalid Aboujassoum – Automated Home Cooking Pot, 83%
Jaber Henzab – Automated Home Pharmacy, 81.6%
Saud Al Shammari – Mechanical Shoes, 79%
Khaled Eid – 3D Holographic Display, 76.7%
Aisha Saleh – Follower Cart, 74.2%
Hekmat Al Rouh – Thaw Indicator Stamp, 74%
Amina Al Hawaj – Assistive Device, 73.5
Nadi Chemali - Smart Musical Stairs, 70.2%

Best of luck to the top 10 candidates in the Engineering Phase and best wishes to the candidates whose journey ended tonight!

Stay tuned to the next phase as the Stars of Science adventure gets more exciting as the competition intensifies!
