Profile of

Mr. James Law

Expertise
Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Cybertecture

James Law, a returning jury member on Stars of Science, is a prominent architect, innovator, and designer who brings a sharp eye for design and technology to the show.  Though his work can be seen in countries as different as India, the United States, and the UAE, each of his projects is characterized by the marriage of sustainability, pragmatic design, and efficient technology. Designs so unique demanded that a new term be coined – ‘Cybertecture’.

As a native of densely populated Hong Kong, Mr. Law grew up knowing that design must ultimately make life easier.  Following his studies at University College London, he went on to establish his own practice, Cybertecture, distinguishing himself as a ‘Cybertect,’ or someone who combines the disciplines of architecture, design, and innovation.  He is best known for acclaimed projects that aim to solve problems facing humanity and improve the lives of people. These include the Pad building and the Techno sphere in UAE, the Cybertecture building and The Capital project in Mumbai, as well as the Cybertecture Mirror – the world’s first intelligent mirror, which not only shows a user his or her reflection, but also news, social media feeds and health readings. Another notable project of his is the OPod, a low-cost, modular housing solution for the homeless in Hong Kong

Mr. Law is recognized as a member of the Royal Institute of Architects and has received many international awards such as the Edison Award for Innovation and the CNBC World Architecture Award.

In recent years, he has expanded his drive to alleviate human suffering and to create a more sustainable world through his company’s social responsibility programs.  He has founded a non-governmental organization called Cybertecture for Humanity and established an educational pillar called Cybertecture Academy.

With his Jury hat on, Mr. Law always encourages the candidates on Stars of Science to find their creative, curious side. He urges them to discover new concepts and methodologies through their practicality and design as he looks forward to inspiring a new generation of innovators in the Arab region and around the world.

“I am happy to return as a juror on the 15th anniversary of Stars of Science and work with the rising Arab talents again this yearOver 15 years, this show has continued to support budding entrepreneurs from across the region and inspire millions to take the challenge of innovation,” commented Mr. Law. “I call on all the aspiring Arab inventors to never give up, believe in yourselves, and keep exploring different possibilities until you find what works.
