Dr. Bothaina Al-Mulla
"Innovation is very much alive among Arab youth — they have the ideas, the passion, and the drive"

Dr. Bothaina Al-Mulla brings together clinical expertise and a deep commitment to humanity in medicine as she joins the panel of jurors in Stars of Science season 17. A graduate of Weill Cornell Medicine in Qatar, she received her medical degree in 2011, later earning a Master’s in Health Management in Strategic Management and Leadership from London in 2014.

Specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Al-Mulla also focuses on Urogynecology Pelvic Floor Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery as a subspeciality. Her research, conducted in New York, focused on reproductive medicine and cancer. She completed her clinical training at Hamad Medical Corporation, with additional clinical exposure and experience at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Throughout her career, she has received multiple awards, including the Excellence in Community Service award from Weill Cornell Medicine, and the Platinum Award for Scientific Excellence under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar. She was also named Speaker of the Year and Ideal Personality of the Year in 2012.

Since 2009, Dr. Al-Mulla had been taking roles in community service and served as a Student Ambassador for Education City, representing Qatari students at both local and international events. During this time, she also took part in the Fakhoura campaign led by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, aimed at supporting students in Gaza and motivating youth in Qatar to overcome adversity and pursue their ambitions.

Her community involvement includes volunteering with the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), the Bawasel Camp for children with diabetes, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Forum, representing youth at The Youth Assembly at the United Nations in New York, and representing youth of the Arabic Gulf at the 35th Supreme Gathering of the countries of the Gulf.

Dr. Al-Mulla’s clinical background has proved especially relevant this season, which saw a notable rise in biomedical innovations. “I evaluate medical projects based on their real-world applicability, the needs they address, and their implementation potential,” she said.

As a motivational speaker, she uses her platform to raise awareness about the importance of empathy and human values in medicine — a philosophy that guides her engagement with young innovators. “If you believe in your dream, don’t give up,” she said. “Whether you win first place or not, just being here and receiving feedback from experts is already a win. Try once, twice, three times — every attempt matters.”

From the clinic to the Stars of Science jury panel, Dr. Al-Mulla continues to advocate for progress that combines science with purpose, inspiring a new generation to innovate with heart.
